Often the pubic symphysis pain during pregnancy is due to the relaxation of strong ligaments on the posterior pelvis causing a slight shift of the pressure placed on the pubis, creating a pulling, tight or tender sensation. Squats shown in this video are designed to keep the largest muscles of the body strong – quads, hams and glutes – to help stabilize the pelvis and also to maintain strength throughout pregnancy. We actually hold a deep squat stretch to loosen the pelvis to aid in birth.

What would you recommend for women with pubic symphysis pain? Are you not concerned that those squats at 3:24 might be placing undue stress on the pubic symphysis?

Dr Cathy, my wife did your exercise most of her pregnancy & it really helped her. In the 39th week, she did it again after a week. The same evening her water broke & 22 hours later, she gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, naturally without pain medication. Your exercise gave her good stamina for labor. This video is a blessing to all pregnant mothers. My wife wants to continue doing this after she recovers from delivery. Thank you so much for this amazing video.

Hello Dr Cathy,`
I´m leaving comments all over Your videos today, but I just want to tell other moms to be that I´ve wasted money on buying fancy pregnancy excercise videos with lots of camera angles, adapted music in the background and beatiful studio surroundings. But I always keep returning to Your videos just because they are so efficient, safe and straightforward. And somehow You succeed in putting in a “there You go” just when I need it. You´re doing a good deed! Thanks again!

Without knowing your fitness & weight levels before pregnancy, I can’t truly answer that question. For some women, it’s okay to lose a little weight during pregnancy if they started off overweight. If you’ve already gained 20 pounds by week 11, I’d advise you to pay attention to the foods you’re eating and the amount of exercise you’re doing. It’s better to spread out your weight gain over the entire pregnancy & not gain as much so soon.Don’t starve yourself or diet, instead eat nutritious foods.

Hello Dr. Cathy,
Thank you so much for your videos! I am 11 weeks pregnant and have so far gained 20 pounds. This is my 4th pregnancy and just wanted to stay fit. Is it safe to loose weight while being pregnant? I was really active before getting pregnant but now I can’t muster up the energy. THanks.

@SilBarreiroFal The best exercise you can do for you for abs is sustained contractions. Stand up nice and tall, pull in on your belly button and pull up on your pelvic floor. maintain this position for 30 – 45 seconds to tighten the abdominal muscles.
